Each working cord is folded in half through the ring, so 8 cords give 16 strands and 4 arms of 4 strands. Cut lengths use 4x the finished length for square knots, 3.5x for the spiral, 1x for gaps and the tassel, plus 5 cm per wrap and 10 cm for the fold and trim, rounded up to 10 cm.

1. Mount on the ring

Fold the 8 working cords in half and hang the folds over the ring so 16 strands hang down evenly. Hang the ring on a hook at eye level; the rest is easier with the work hanging.

2. Top wrap

With the 80 cm wrapping cord, tie a gathering knot around all 16 strands directly under the ring: lay the cord along the bundle with a loop at the bottom, wind about 8 turns down over it, pass the end through the loop and pull the top tail until the loop disappears inside the wrap. Trim both tails.
