Each working cord is folded in half through the ring, so 4 cords give 8 strands and 2 arms of 4 strands. Cut lengths use 4x the finished length for square knots, 3.5x for the spiral, 1x for gaps and the tassel, plus 5 cm per wrap and 10 cm for the fold and trim, rounded up to 10 cm.

1. Mount on the ring

Fold the 4 working cords in half and hang the folds over the ring so 8 strands hang down evenly. Hang the ring on a hook at eye level; the rest is easier with the work hanging.

2. Top wrap

With the 60 cm wrapping cord, tie a gathering knot around all 8 strands directly under the ring: lay the cord along the bundle with a loop at the bottom, wind about 10 turns down over it, pass the end through the loop and pull the top tail until the loop disappears inside the wrap. Trim both tails.
