- Fine outlines, padding under satin stitch, filling shapes in close rows (the medieval way of shading faces and drapery).
- How it works
- Each stitch comes up through the middle of the previous stitch, splitting its threads, which gives a flat chain-like line. Works best with an even number of strands so the needle can split them cleanly.
