- Thread use (x)Line, knot, detached, couching, edging and composite stitches: cm of thread per cm of stitched line. Filling stitches: cm of thread per square cm of solid cover with all six strands (halve the strands and the figure doubles). Working figures used by the thread length estimator; they include the thread on the back but not starts and ends.
- 8 x
- Used for
- Rosebuds, caterpillars, curved petals and raised bars; a row of bullions makes a rose.
- How it works
- The needle is brought up and put back in a stitch length away but left in the fabric; the thread is wrapped around the needle tip enough times to cover the stitch length, then the needle is pulled through the wraps and the coil is laid down. A milliners needle, with no bulge at the eye, makes the pull easier.
