- Shaded filling of petals, animals and anything larger than satin stitch can cover; blending several colours across a shape.
- How it works
- The first row along the edge alternates long and short straight stitches; every following row is all long stitches worked up into the row above, splitting its threads, so the rows lock together and the colour changes gradually. Also called thread painting or needle painting.
