- Thread use (x)Line, knot, detached, couching, edging and composite stitches: cm of thread per cm of stitched line. Filling stitches: cm of thread per square cm of solid cover with all six strands (halve the strands and the figure doubles). Working figures used by the thread length estimator; they include the thread on the back but not starts and ends.
- 22 x
- Used for
- Solid, smooth filling of small shapes: petals, leaves, dots, letters, geometric blocks.
- How it works
- Straight stitches laid side by side across the shape so they touch and cover the fabric completely. Long stitches over about 1 cm start to snag and lift, so larger areas are split into sections or worked in long-and-short stitch. An outline of split or back stitch under the edge gives a crisp edge.
