- Thread use (x)Line, knot, detached, couching, edging and composite stitches: cm of thread per cm of stitched line. Filling stitches: cm of thread per square cm of solid cover with all six strands (halve the strands and the figure doubles). Working figures used by the thread length estimator; they include the thread on the back but not starts and ends.
- 12 x
- Used for
- Open lattice filling inside large shapes, often over a satin or fabric ground; Jacobean crewel work.
- How it works
- Long straight threads laid across the shape in one direction and then the other to form a grid, with each crossing held down by a small cross or straight stitch. The laid threads do not enter the fabric between the edges, so the grid stays flat.
